ARIJ 17th Annual Forum

Journalism Unbound

A Glimpse

ARIJ 17th Annual Forum took place in Dead Sea, Jordan, from December 6-8, 2024. This year’s edition was centered around the theme "Journalism Unbound," highlighting the increasing restrictions on press freedom in the face of digital censorship, political constraints, and conflicts, particularly after the war in Gaza and Lebanon. With over 750 in-person participants and 2,300 online attendees from over 80 countries, ARIJ24 provided a critical space for journalists, media professionals, and fact-checkers to discuss challenges and explore ways to push back against these growing restrictions and keep pushing to produce high quality investigations exposing wrong doing and calling for accountability. Over 80 speakers, half females, volunteered to share their knowledge and experience.

At a time when the use of technology and artificial intelligence to influence public opinion has escalated, independent investigative journalism faces unprecedented challenges up to highest risks to journalists' safety. Through "Journalism Unbound," ARIJ24 aimed to shine a light on these constraints and mitigate their impact, ensuring that factual content with the highest quality is available for the wider audience everywhere, including marginalized communities.
