Beyond a Checklist Exercise - Gender Media Monitoring as a Tool to Improve Representation for All

In this session, FPU presented tools and experiences in gender media monitoring, and sought from the audience questions, advice and challenges when it comes to improving the gender sensitivity of media productions.

Bridging Boundaries: Ushering a New Era of Cross-border Labour Migration Reporting

To unpack the potential of cross-border collaboration for journalists and journalism students in labour migration reporting, the ILO convened with journalists, journalism educators, and students to present two initiatives carried out by the ILO along different migration corridors in the region: Jordan-Uganda (focusing on migrant domestic workers) and Tunisia-Côte d’Ivoire corridors. Focusing on the role that journalism students can play through cross-border fellowship.

This session revealed the artistry of a network's creation. In the symphony of global storytelling, and explored the realities and echoes of cross border collaboration that shaped Al Jazeera into an influential global south voice.

The Severity of Digital Threats

A compelling session that explores the alarming landscape of cyber risks. This discussion unveiled the various forms of digital threats, their impact on investigative journalists, fact-checkers and independent media organisations.

Lightning Talk: Building Bridges, Not Walls

In this session, 10 speakers discussed in pairs collaborative projects they worked on, and how they were able to create impact in different communities and settings.

GBV: Dealing with Online Intimidation

This panel discussed the types and consequences of digital violence that female public figures, especially journalists, experience in the MENA region. The panellists explored the different aspects of tech facilitated violence, including the legal/governance, technical and psychosocial and dimensions, and will highlight findings and recommendations from recent research, capacity strengthening and advocacy efforts in the region and beyond.

Regional or Global Fact-Checking Networks: Which One Should I join?

Like a compass guiding ambition, the session unveiled the constellation of possibilities, illuminating the path to weave a destiny of connections, whether regional or global.

Unveiling Innovative Ways to Tell the Climate Story

This session, which is a collaboration between the Royal Academy of Art (the Hague) and ARIJ discussed experiences of the collaboration of 3 ARIJ investigations from the MENA region and how the collaboration between journalism and art can advance the climate story.

Virtual Session: In What Ways can ARIJ Add Value to Your Investigative Career? (Arabic)

In this session ARIJ coaches and executive editors discussed the ways in which ARIJ can enhance and contribute to the development of the journalists investigative career, and provide valuable support, resources, and opportunities.

“Shooting vs. Shooting” Documentary Screening

Shooting vs. Shooting is a documentary that revolves around the deaths of many journalists and media workers in Iraq at the beginning of the war in 2003. The film tries to make people realise that if journalists are not on the ground, war consequences and the drama of people involved, will never be known to the rest of the world. It underlines that impunity is not an exception but regrettably the rule.
The screening was followed by a discussion with filmmaker Nikos Megrelis, to dig deeper into the decision behind making this film.
